Euromed Optimist Regatta

Strong international competition, reliable winter sailing conditions, and excellent race management make it the ideal way to begin the new season.
Malta Europa Cup
The Europa Cup series is widely recognised for delivering some of the highest standards of ILCA racing and race management in the world. The Malta Europa Cup has established itself as one of the leading events in the series, attracting sailors from across Europe and an increasingly international fleet from around the globe. How the Coaching Works
Our Euromed and the Malta Europa Cup coaching programme is led by a Lead Coach, supported by one or two other experienced SailCoach coaches. The coaching team works closely together throughout both the training days and the regatta.
The Lead Coach is responsible for setting the overall day-to-day programme and coaching priorities for the group. They lead the daily briefings, coordinate the coaching team and make sure that all sailors are working towards the same objectives.
Once the regatta begins and sailors are divided into different fleets, the coaches will split across the groups to ensure sailors receive appropriate support on the water. The Lead Coach will primarily work with the Gold Fleet sailors, while the other coaches will work with the remaining Optimist and ILCA groups.
Importantly, this does not mean that sailors outside the Gold Fleet lose access to the Lead Coach. The coaching team works as one unit, with regular communication and feedback between coaches. The Lead Coach continues to oversee the programme, runs the briefings and debriefings, review how sailors are progressing and provide input throughout the regatta.
This structure allows us to give sailors more individual attention on the water while still benefiting from the experience and direction of the Lead Coach throughout the entire programme.
Coaching Groups
Giving you the best of both worlds, training begins in larger class groups led by our lead coach, creating an energetic learning environment where everyone benefits from shared coaching. Once the racing starts, sailors are placed into smaller coaching groups, with a target of six sailors per coach, ensuring more individual support throughout the regatta.
Video Analysis and Briefing
Daily briefings and debriefs bring together all sailors within each class, while video analysis provides additional feedback to help you understand your performance, improve your boat handling, and develop better race strategies.
